Concussion Protocol For Giants’ Quarterback Jaxson Dart Under Review By NFL And NFLPA
They put on a dominant performance against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. And came away with a decisive victory over the Super Bowl champions. But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the G-Men. It was announced today that the concussion protocol for New York Giants’ quarterback Jaxson Dart is under review by the NFL and NFLPA. The league review will be conducted jointly with the NFLPA under the parties’ collective bargaining agreement, per NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.
Late in the third quarter Dart was sacked by Patrick Johnson forcing him into Azeez Ojulari. It looked as if Dart’s head was pushed back across Ojulari’s body as he was falling to the ground. He remained on the ground while grabbing his head before he was looked after by the Giants’ medical staff. Thereafter he was able to jog off the field and immediately went to the blue medical tent. And that’s when the trouble started.
Head coach Brian Daboll and rookie running back Cam Skattebo, both ran over to the blue medical tent as Dart was undergoing tests. Daboll wanted to find out whether Dart would be cleared and return to the game. He also needed to decide whether to call timeout and potentially go for it on fourth down, if Dart was available. The coach was also seen speaking in an animated way to the team physician, Dr. Scott Rodeo. Daboll later apologized to the doctor after the game.
As a result of these actions, an NFL spokesman for the league expressed the following: “The NFL initiated a review of the application of the concussion protocol involving New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart during last night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. That review will be conducted jointly with the NFLPA under the parties’ collective bargaining agreement.”

Due to the review, Giants President & CEO John Mara made the following statement:
“I spoke to Coach Daboll this morning about approaching the medical tent last night. While I firmly believe, as he has stated, that he was not trying to influence the process in any way, he understands that the appearance of going to the tent is inappropriate. We have protocols in place as a league to ensure player safety, and we need to allow our medical staff to execute those protocols without interference. We understand the situation is under review by the NFL and the NFLPA, and obviously we will cooperate fully.”
It seems that Daboll got emotional last night and didn’t intentionally flout the concussion protocol. So we’ll see what the NFL and NFLPA decide to do about the issue.
