Commanders Near to Finalizing $3B Deal to Build Stadium in DC at Old RFK Site
More exciting news continues to pour in for Washington. And this after a thrilling season that saw the rise of rookie sensation and quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels led his team to one of their best seasons in recent history and narrowly missed out on making a Super Bowl appearance; coming up short just one game before. However, in a few years this franchise could be celebrating in a brand new home as well. The Washington Commanders are near to finalizing a $3B deal to build a stadium in DC at their old RFK site.
Of course, this Washington NFL organization has been tight lipped about all the recent stadium and development reports. Despite a plethora of reporting that apparently the mayor and Commanders are nearing a deal and agreement to bring on a new RFK Stadium. However, the mayor’s office did provide this brief statement:
“In the coming days, we will share more on our growth agenda by highlighting our next budget to grow DC and outlining a plan to realize abundant opportunities at our RFK as we forge ahead with shaping DC’s future economy.”
Well, it sounds like something is in fact going to happen with the RFK site. According to News4, the Washington Commanders team plans to contribute $2.5 billion to building a beautiful new stadium. While the District all provides up to $850 million. Furthermore, Mark Segraves, of NBC Washington had this to add, “DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Commanders have framework for a more than $3 Billion deal to bring the team to DC and build new stadium at RFK campus in time for 2030 NFL season.”

Lastly, the Washington Times also believes that something must be afoot and in the works. Several sources can confirm. They reveal, “The Washington Commanders are nearing a return to the District after playing more than 25 seasons in Maryland. One source familiar with the negotiations told The Washington Times that a deal had not been finalized. News about a new stadium had slowed in recent weeks as federal lawmakers slashed $1 billion out of the city’s budget in the middle of the fiscal year, forcing Bowser to revamp her budget proposal for fiscal 2026. [However], Commanders owner Josh Harris has said he hopes to open a new stadium before the 2030 NFL season. The Commanders own their current home — Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland — though their lease expires in 2027.”
