Coco Gauff Wins Her Second Consecutive Auckland Title at the 2024 ASB Classic
Atlanta… it’s time to give another round of applause to your tennis princess. The 19 year old sports superstar is kicking off the new year, with even more success. Coco Gauff wins her second consecutive Auckland title placing her in a very small group of athletes to do so. She becomes just the 4th player to achieve back-to-back singles victories in Auckland’s history.
However, it was not easy. The championship match starts off looking a little tight for Coco. Nevertheless, in the end Gauff holds off a spirited effort from Elina Svitolina 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3 to claim her second straight ASB Classic title. The announcer for the Tennis Channel sums up the intense face-off by stating,
“And how sweet it is! Coco Gauff defends her Auckland title. Wins it for the second year in a row. It was a battle.
Gets through Svitolina in three sets. Boy, a lot of subtle adjustments from both players. This was extremely high level tennis. And Coco … really a heck of an effort after losing a tough tiebreak; to turn it around and just stick with the game plan.”

Yes, very nicely done Coco. As we all know, even for the best athletes, some days are just tougher than others. Nevertheless, it is thrilling to see a teenager with such pose on the court, who does not break under pressure; but rather, rises to the occasion.
Even the legendary, Billie Jean King; is singing Gauff’s praises. After Coco’s amazing win, King takes to social media to give a quick congratulations to the young tennis player. King states,
“That’s two consecutive Auckland women’s singles championships for Coco Gauff!
Congratulations!”
As one can see, Coco Gauff is still riding high in 24’ and the year is only beginning. Just last year in 2023, she wins her very first U.S. Open and now we are witnessing her defend her own titles! Crazy.
However, this type of accomplishment is not without hard work. Just days before becoming an Auckland champion again, a video of Coco goes viral. It shows her on a court practicing and staying focused. All the signs of an athlete that wants to dominant and stay competitive. Nonetheless, we are sure if she keeps this kind of work ethic we will continue to see great things from Coco Gauff for some time.
