There was a lot of talk surrounding her season and how she has played. However, Coco Gauff got the final word and laugh all the way to the bank. Coco Gauff earns the largest paycheck in women’s tennis history and is also the youngest to win the WTA Finals in 20 years.

Now that, is how you win in style. American tennis sensation Coco Gauff ended her season in historic fashion on Saturday. She rallied big time to defeat China’s Zheng Qinwen 3-6 6-4 7-6 (2) to win the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Coco got to be heralded as the victor, and to victor goes the spoils. Tennis reporter Susan Swavely revealed the big financial news regarding Gauff. She states,

“This past weekend, Coco Gauff won yet another tennis title–and she took home the grand cash prize too, setting a payment record. Gauff took home a massive $4.8 million in prize money, breaking the professional women’s tennis payment record! Gauff continues to be one of the highest paid female athletes in the world.

This win earned [Coco] the Billie Jean King Trophy and her ninth career WTA Tour singles title! And… the largest sum of prize money in WTA history!”

Well-deserved. Furthermore, if you beat an opponent after a tough match lasting over three hours of play time. We think you’ve earned the right to say a few things about it. And that’s exactly what Gauff did. She took to social media after her historic win to say,

“In all seriousness, I’m so grateful for all the support the last few weeks. Getting to win the last tournament of the season and it also being my second biggest title of my career so far is insane. Wow WTA FINALS CHAMPION All glory to God truthfully I’m eternally grateful for the life I get to live and to have moments like this makes all of the hours/sacrifice I put into this worth it. time to rest for a little bit but then it’s back to grind for the year’s season.

Also, I know tend to focus on “doubters/haters” but this one is really for all of my supporters! Ya’ll held it down for me win or lose! I thank you for that. I see you and I appreciate you. And I know some of you are a little bit petty like me so it does feel nice to silence them for a bit.”

Yes, winning tends to have that effect on doubters. However, Gauff’s greatness is forever solidified in the history books. She is officially the youngest player to beat the reigning world No. 1 and No. 2 at the WTA Finals since Kim Clijsters in 2002, per Opta.

Additionally, the 20-year-old tennis sensation and superstar capped a run that saw her become the youngest player since Maria Sharapova in 2004 to win the prestigious tournament reserved for the best players in the world. Bravo!
