Nevertheless, how did she do against Elina? Gauff once again got off to a bit of a rough start, but she rallied back to secure the big “W.” Defeating Elina Svitolina 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. This is Coco’s 41st win of the year.

Now Gauff will move on and face a fellow American, Emma Navarro, who also won her match Friday against Marta Kostyuk, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Before this year, Emma had never made it out of the 1st round of the US Open. This year, she’s now reached the 4th round of the last 3 Grand Slams.

Emma and Coco are definitely familiar with each other’s game. They both have differing styles on their approach, but they are both relentless. So it will definitely be a nice showdown between the two. However, the pair have also been able to get to know each other more recently; so they are looking forward to seeing and competing against each other. After her win, Emma states,

“I’m really excited to play Coco again. I got to know her at the Olympics. She’s an awesome girl. It’s pretty cool to have two Americans playing each other in the 4th round of a Grand Slam.”

Nice, two competitors with much respect and appreciation for each other. Gauff and Navarro have a day to prepare themselves for their grueling battle. They will face off this coming Sunday on September 1st.
