Coco Gauff Advances to Dubai WTA 1000 Semifinal After Defeating Alexandra Eala

Well, Thursday went way better and differently for the World #4. Coco looked more like herself after the Elise Mertens escape from 3 match points down. Coco Gauff advances to the Dubai WTA 1000 semifinal after defeating Alexandra Eala. Breezing through the matchup and becoming the victor in straight sets.

Gauff dominated the match during all 70 minutes. Eala never found a rhythm, nor was able to commence any sort of comeback. Coco Gauff plays her best match of the week to easily beat Alexandra Eala 6-0, 6-2 and reach the semifinals in Dubai for the second time.

Nonetheless, like Novak Djokovic recently, Gauff after her match versus Eala discussed how the Alex fandom is so great for the sport of tennis. Coco mentioned to fans in the stands as well as the media,

“Thank you guys for coming out here. I know you were mostly supporting Alex but I have to say, it’s great to be on a crowded court. I’ve played this tournament for many years and to see the stadium full… it means a lot. I’d like to thank Alex for bringing a new demographic to the sport. It’s great. Sometimes it’s tough when you’re playing against a home crowd [laughs]. I think it’s great for the sport. Keep being enthusiastic and keep rooting for your player.”

Djokovic who has been in the sport for a very long time had the same sentiments. Regarding Eala and her ability to bring in new eyes, he says,

“I saw the other day with Alex Eala, that’s been the talk which is understandable. There are some players coming from respective countries like she’s coming from Philippines which is now a big deal. She has been the biggest ever tennis player from that country, which is a big country and there is big interest.

Again it is a good problem to have, having too much crowd is a good problem. Imagine if there’s a lack of people coming or the stands are empty. That’s a bigger problem.”
