Cleveland Browns Traded Amari Cooper To Buffalo Bills

Well today is wide receiver shuffle day apparently. Now after the Davante Adams news, another team has gotten in on the trading action. It’s been reported by Dianna Russini that the Cleveland Browns have traded Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills. ESPN Insider Field Yates followed up with this post:

Buffalo desperately need WR help and Cooper looked like a player who really needed a change of scenery. With Cooper’s base salary all the way down to $1.21M this season, Buffalo takes on just $807K to acquire him.

According to the Browns website they received a 2025 3rd round pick and a 2026 7th round pick. And the Bills receive WR Amari Cooper and 2025 6th round pick (from Detroit).

With the Browns offense already in disarray this trade may have been an act of kindness for Cooper. But losing a good wide receiver can’t be helpful to their offense either. As for the Bills getting a consistent wide receiver like Cooper can help their struggling WR corps. And it helps that Bills’ wide receiver coach Adam Henry worked with Cooper when the two were with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and 2021. The Bills wide receivers have struggled all season long to get separation from defenders. Pairing Cooper with their best receiver Khalil Shakir could help out QB Josh Allen taking some of the pressure off of him.

Regarding the trade Executive VP of Football Operations and General Manager Andrew Barry stated:

“We appreciate Amari’s hard work, professionalism and on-field contributions throughout his two plus seasons with us. He created many memorable moments with us and was an integral part of our 2023 playoff team. We wish him the best in Buffalo as he continues his NFL career.”

Cooper was drafted by the Raiders with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was there for 3 1/2 years before being traded to Dallas during the 2018 season. Dallas traded him to the Cleveland Browns before the 2022 season. Despite being shuffled around Cooper has been consistent and productive. In nine years he averaged 80 catches, 1134 yards, 7 TDs. He became the first player in the Browns’ history to record consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Cooper shared his thoughts about the trade with Josina Anderson:

“(General manager) Andrew Berry called me and told me what was going on. As far as playing with Josh (Allen) I’ve always been fan of his game. I’m sure to see it up close and personal and play alongside him, I’m sure it’s going to be great.” “I’ve been in this situation before, so that helps. I’m just excited to turn a new chapter and to be able to contribute.”
