Cleveland Browns And Myles Garrett Reach Record Breaking Deal

He had requested to be traded but the front office had no interest in granting that request. Other teams were hoping to get their hands on the pass rushing phenom. However, they were soon to have their hopes dashed. Instead of leaving the organization a new contract got done. Because the Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett were able to reach a record breaking deal. Weighing in on the situation was Adam Schefter. He provided the following details:

“From trade to truce and beyond: the Browns and Myles Garrett reached agreement today on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money and now makes him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, sources tell ESPN. Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports and Browns GM Andrew Berry finalized the deal today.”

“The contract also includes a no-trade clause and ties Garrett to the Browns through the 2030 season. The path from Cleveland to Canton is back on as Garrett continues his pursuit of a championship for the team that drafted No. 1 overall in 2017.”

The deal signed by Maxx Crosby just last week had been the highest non-QB deal in history. Crosby’s deal was for three years worth $35.5 million, but things change quickly in the NFL. Now Miles Garrett is sitting pretty and happy to remain with the Browns. It had seemed like the situation was going from bad to worse between the Browns and Garrett. The last we’d heard was that Garrett requested a meeting with owner Jimmy Haslan which he declined. NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero had been told by sources that “Garrett is prepared to sit out games if his request isn’t granted. But all of that has been put behind them now.

Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn, explained the defensive end’s thinking to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot.

“[Browns General Manager] Andrew Berry and I spent the last 36 hours getting the deal done, basically,” Lynn told Cabot. “Myles had a change of heart and he’s excited to go from Cleveland to Canton and chase a championship in Ohio.”

“When he made that decision, he said ‘I want to get this done before free agency so I can start recruiting free agents, so I can help the team,’” Garrett’s agent told Cleveland.com. “And I said, ‘Alright, we have 24 hours to get this done,’ and we did it.”

So then, apparently Garrett wants to partially earn his new deal by helping the team bring in new players. I guess that makes him the ultimate team player. Congrats Myles Garrett on inking your new deal!
