Cincinnati Bengals Lose Trent Brown For The Season

Monday night’s loss to the Washington Commanders was a gut punch for the team. But that isn’t the end of the bad news. It’s been reported that the Cincinnati Bengals will lose offensive lineman Trent Brown for the rest of the season. Brown suffered a torn patellar tendon during the Monday night clash. He appeared to have gone done easily almost like he just collapsed an indication that something was seriously wrong. Brown had to be carted off the field during the second quarter. The 31-year old Brown is a 10-year veteran who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 2015. And has spent time with the New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders. On March 19, 2024, he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The other good news for the Bengals is that they have rookie Amarius Mims. He was their first-round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a superb preseason showing what he can do. So Mims was happy to make his NFL debut in the Monday night game in the  second quarter as an extra tackle. However, he quickly became the right tackle for what appears to be the rest of the season when Brown went down. Commenting on Mims performance center Ted Karras had this to say:

“It means Amarius Mims is the next guy up and nobody’s better for the job. He’s the guy we drafted to play right tackle and I’m excited to see what he can show with a full week’s prep,” Karras said. “I think he did all right. I’m sure like any NFL debut we’ve all had, there are things to get better.”

And in a strange twist of fate, the Bengals will have to face their former franchise quarterback Andy Dalton. They will play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Sep. 29. Dalton played in Week 3 after the Panthers benched Bryce Young. The Panthers got their first win, with Dalton under center, against the Raiders. Dalton has wins over the Bengals with the Cowboys in 2020 and the Bears in 2021, but the Bengals beat him in New Orleans the last time they met in 2022. Since the Bengals are looking for their first win of the season this game is critical.

Can Dalton keep the Panthers on a winning trajectory? Not if the Bengals have anything to say about it. Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. said, “We’ve got to do whatever we can to come out of Charlotte 1-3,” Brown said of next Sunday’s game against the Panthers. “One day at a time. Stay committed to our team and our plan.”
