Chris Paul Is Retiring From the NBA after 21 Seasons

One of the greatest point guards in NBA history will be saying goodbye once the 2025-2026 season concludes. Throughout his long tenure, this star during his career averaged of 16.9 points, 9.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game, shooting 46.9% from the field and 36.9% from 3-point range. Can’t believe the time has come… but Chris Paul is retiring from the NBA after 21 seasons.

Chris ranks second all-time in assists (12,532) and steals (2,727) and has led the league in assists five times and steals six times. Additionally, Paul is a 12-time All-Star, an 11-time member of All-NBA teams, a selection to the 75 greatest players list, nine-time All-Defense and the 2006 Rookie of the Year.

Paul has played for seven franchises, however, in the summer, Paul, 40, signed what was reported as a one-year, $3.6 million deal to reunite with the Los Angeles Clippers. A team with whom he had previously starred from 2011-17.

Nevertheless, Paul left all of the sports world in a stunned vortex thanks to a social media post heralding that this season will be his final act. Along with a video Chris added the caption: “Back in NC!!! What a ride…Still so much left…GRATEFUL for this last one!!”

Despite Paul’s many achievements as well as accolades he never won an NBA title. However, he is not alone in this club. Here is a list of several basketball players who were amazing on the court but just couldn’t get the job done.

Retired Without the Big Win

Name Career games
Vince Carter 1,541
John Stockton 1,504
Karl Malone 1,476
Reggie Miller 1,389
Clifford Robinson 1,380
Chris Paul 1,364
Even NBA extraordinaire LeBron James congratulated Paul on his retirement. On Instagram he posted the following: “Point God!!! It’s been a helluva ride.” Despite their long careers the two were never on an NBA team together. However they are co-Olympians having been on Team USA at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Games winning gold medals together. They are also the only NBA players to reach both the 20,000 career points and 10,000 career assists milestones.
In addition to his excellent leadership quality his career has also been highlighted by his versatility and durability. Off the court, he has also left his mark serving as president of the National Basketball Players Association from 2013 to 2021. Such a role played a part in helping him to shape labor negotiations, social justice and advocating for player’s rights. We don’t come across a type like Chris Paul very much so his presence will be tremendously missed.
We wish a hearty congratulations and a happy retirement to CP3, Chris Paul III!
