Chiefs And Jets Lose Key Players To Injuries
Injuries are always a part of the NFL and on Sunday the injury bug struck again. Both the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets will lose key players to injuries. For the Chiefs they hope to have their player return before the season ends. But for the Jets their player will be gone for the rest of the season. And since injuries are expected and planned for the teams will have to implement their back up plans.
On Sunday the Chiefs were locked into what seemed to be a losing battle with the Cincinnati Bengals. It was late in the fourth quarter when Isiah Pacheco sustained a leg injury. Undrafted rookie free agent Carson Steele came in to replace Pacheco. Earlier in the second quarter, Steele had fumbled the ball which led to a Bengals’ field goal. Nevertheless the Chiefs will have to rely on him going forward. They also have Samaje Perine whom they signed to a one-year deal after being released by the Denver Broncos. Replacing Pacheco won’t be easy as he has been a key component of the Chiefs offseason already this season.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported today that initial tests show Pacheco fractured his fibula. And later today head coach Andy Reid confirmed he fractured his right fibula but did not speculate on a when he might return. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that Pacheco is expected to miss approximately 6-8 weeks. He’ll go on IR but plans to be back this year. In addition, Adam Schefter is reporting that the Chiefs are bringing their former RB Kareem Hunt back to Kansas City for a Tuesday visit, per league sources. Hunt could help fill the Chiefs’ running back void.
Chiefs And Jets Lose Key Players To Injuries
The injury news is more severe for the Jets who lost Jermaine Johnson to a torn Achilles tendon. Johnson confirmed the injury himself on x.com. He suffered the injury in the third quarter in the game against the Tennessee Titans which the Jets won 24-17. Johnson was a big part of the Jets edge group whose abilities will be missed. However, DT Quinnen Williams believes Will McDonald the Jets’ first-round pick in 2023 is capable of stepping into the role.
“The kind of caliber of a guy that he is with the spin moves, with the power moves, with the run stops, the edges,” Williams said of McDonald. “To see the kind of caliber a guy that he is, the athletic ability that he can bring to this team, that he can bring to this defense is unbelievable.”
Johnson remains positive about the situation.
