Chicago Bears Traded Justin Fields to Pittsburgh
After trading Kenny Pickett, the Steelers made a move to replace him. According to Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears have traded Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers confirmed the breaking news on their website:
“The Steelers acquired quarterback Justin Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2025.”
The pick could turn into a 4th round selection depending on the amount of playing time. He would need to play in 51 percent of the plays in the upcoming season. My guess would be that won’t happen unless Wilson gets hurt. Then again maybe Fields wins the starting job in training camp. Who knows, stranger things have happened in the NFL.
At any rate Russell Wilson seems happy about the addition of Fields. He posted this message on his social media:
Fields is a a dual threat quarterback as he can run the ball to help extend plays if needed. In his career, he has rushed for 2,220 yards on 356 carries and 14 touchdowns, including a career-long 67-yard touchdown run in 2022. Regarding his passing stats he is 578 of 958 pass attempts (60.3%) for 6,674 yards, a seven-yard average per pass. Now that he’ll be backing up Russell Wilson perhaps he can further refine his passing skills.

Fields also posted a message on social media:
“Can’t say thank you enough to the city of Chicago for taking me in and embracing me. Thank you to the entire Bears organization and ownership for allowing me the opportunity to be part of such a historic franchise. But most of all thank you to my all my brothers that I played with. You all were the reason I attacked each day the way I did. I can’t thank you all enough for what y’all have meant to me over the last 3 years through the ups and downs. I wish each one of you nothing but success. Ready for this next chapter!”
Besides the quarterback shuffle, the Steelers have also signed WR Van Jefferson to a 1-year deal, per Ari Meirov. And in other news, the Rams are giving former Raiders and 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo a one-year deal, per source. The Jets are signing OT Tyron Smith to a one-year deal that, with incentives, could be worth up to $20 million, per source.
