Chicago Bears And General Manager Ryan Poles Agreed To Contract Extension
We shouldn’t be surprised by this latest development in Chicago. After all, it was mentioned back in January that they wanted to make it happen. But understandably some people, especially their fans, may be disappointed or even angry by the news. But despite any misgivings, the Chicago Bears and general manager Ryan Poles have agreed to a contract extension. Poles has been the architect of a rebuild in Chicago since his arrival in 2022.
Reporting on the transaction was Adam Schefter on his x.com (formerly Twitter) account stating:
“ESPN sources: the Bears and general manager Ryan Poles have reached agreement on a contract extension that ties him to Chicago for the next five years, through the 2029 season. Poles had two years remaining on his old deal, but now the Bears have him and new head coach Ben Johnson both under contract for a matching five seasons.”
“Since being hired in 2022, Ryan Poles has overseen a full-scale rebuild in Chicago — highlighted by the blockbuster trade of the No. 1 pick in 2023 to Carolina, which helped position the Bears to land Caleb Williams the following year. Poles also hired Ben Johnson this offseason, signaling a new era of Bears football built around its franchise quarterback.”
Clearly Poles has been hard at work trying to turn around the losing ways of a once proud franchise. But since his arrival the losing hasn’t stopped and that’s what has people concerned. Overall, he has a 15-36 record, with no playoff appearances and zero titles. However, NFL analyst Adam Rank is in favor of the Bears locking up Poles. He stated, “He’s rebuilt the roster. Now Poles, Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams have time to lead the Bears to the promise land.”

Also coming to the defense of Poles is football host Taylor Doll who said:
“People are going to hate on this but i have said it before and i will again, i love Poles. He took over a team that had 80+ mill in dead cap, almost 60% of the roster hitting FA, a trash roster, no 1st rnd pick, 5 total picks and totally flipped the $, picks and roster.”
And as pointed out by Courtney Cronin of ESPN, Chicago traded the draft’s top pick to the Carolina Panthers in March 2023 for wide receiver DJ Moore and four draft picks, which Poles used to draft quarterback Caleb Williams, right tackle Darnell Wright, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, wide receiver Luther Burden III and punter Tory Taylor.
The Bears now have their general manager, head coach (Ben Johnson) and quarterback (Caleb Williams) locked up. So will this be the combination that gets the Bears back on a winning track?
