Chicago Bears Agreed To Terms With Cornerback Kyler Gordon
They spent time shoring up the offensive line for quarterback Caleb Williams during this offseason. Now general manager Ryan Poles turned his attention to the defensive side of the ball. His priority was to get this player locked up as soon as possible. Therefore the Chicago Bears agreed to terms with slot cornerback Kyler Gordon. Gordon is the the first player Poles drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter he reported details of the deal that was reached yesterday:
“ESPN source: Bears reached agreement today on a three-year, $40 million extension that includes $31.25 million guaranteed with CB Kyler Gordon. The deal now makes Gordon the NFL’s highest-paid slot corner and contractually ties him to Chicago through the 2028 season.”
Gordon has now edged out Indianapolis Colts’ Kenny Moore II who previously held the top spot when he inked a three-year, $30 million extension last offseason. In his first three seasons with the Bears, Gordon has put up impressive numbers. So it’s not surprising that Poles said two weeks ago that it was a priority to get a deal done. Gordon totaled 75 tackles (including four for loss), five pass breakups and one forced fumble in 15 games just during the 2024 season.
Even new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen mentioned Gordon by name when asked about the potential of the Bears’ secondary. Allen said:
“Kyler Gordon, I think, is an outstanding nickel player. I have a vision for how we can utilize him. I think the foundation for what we want to do is there, and then I’m just excited about finally getting these guys in here and us having the opportunity to work with him and see exactly what we have.”

Despite missing multiple games due to injury in each of his first three seasons he has four fumble recoveries, nine tackles for loss and 17 pass deflections in his young career. Gordon was previously asked about his contract extension. His response was: “I mean, I love Chicago,” Gordon said on March 12. “I love everything about it — the people, the history, the team, the community — so if this is where God tells me to be, this is where I will be, this is where I want to be.”
The Bears also extended cornerback Jaylon Johnson in March 2024. So shoring up the defense continues to be a priority with the extension of Gordon. No doubt the Bears hope to have more success in 2025 than they did in 2024. Congratulations to Kyler Gordon, hopefully he won’t get bit by the injury bug in 2025.
