Louisiana has been a little quiet thus far this offseason. Yet, they now are roaring into action by snapping up a young defensive end. The streets are saying that DE Chase Young plans to sign a one year deal with the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints dipping into the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers pool could prove to be a nice weapon for the NFL franchise to utilize. Young gets a new scenery to thrive in, and the Saints get a youthful, moldable talent to try and fit into their team culture and lineup. Pro football reporter, Ian Rapoport was among the first to confirm the decision, Ian states,
“Source: The Saints are expected to sign former 49ers pass-rusher Chase Young, a new weapon off the edge. The 2020 No. 2 overall selection gets a fresh start.”
Nice. However, as we all know nothing in this world moves or happens without the mighty dollar. Therefore, what are the financials looking like with this move by New Orleans? Not bad, the Saints are going to be parting with just a little over $10 million. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports,
“Comp update: Free-agent DE Chase Young plans to sign a one-year, fully guaranteed $13 million deal with the New Orleans Saints, per sources.”

During his short career, Young has dealt with some injuries. However, he keeps having flashes of success (like the sack during the Super Bowl); that leads many to believe he’s still got a chance at turning it all around. Pat Mahomes has been elusive to many defenses; therefore, picking up a guy who actually got to him and took him to the ground during the biggest game of the season is definitely never a bad thing.
Furthermore, if the Saints can be the team to finally pull out the best from Young; they could really be on the path to building in the right direction. Strong defenses can win big games. Both sides of the ball is extremely important, and New Orleans is already at work at getting stronger in both aspects.
