This year’s exciting draft was absolutely star-studded. With famous faces from the WWE, NBA, Hollywood and… Happy Gilmore?? Yes, it’s true Charles Barkley and Adam Sandler along with Dave Coulier announced the NHL Draft 2025 picks surprising draftees and hockey fans everywhere.
Charles Barkley tied in digitally and was met with applause from hockey enthusiasts in attendance. Charles has never been shy about his interest in the NHL. And he had the opportunity to announce the pick for the Philadelphia Flyers. Very fitting since Barkley did play for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Furthermore, Adam Sandler also got in on all the good vibes. The actor and funny-man had the privilege of heralding the pick for the Boston Bruins. Sandler announced Boston’s first-round pick, James Hagens. Adam’s appearance was a nod to his iconic role in “Happy Gilmore” and the movie’s connection to the Bruins.
Another longtime actor and hockey lover made an appearance. Dave Coulier took on the duties of announcing the Red Wings first round pick. Coulier who has valiantly battled and survived cancer is from St. Clair Shores; and recently moved back to the area, he is a lifelong Red Wings fan and is frequently spotted at games.

Another touching moment during the draft occurred during the announcement of the 14th and 20th pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets. To make the picks, the wife of Johnny Gaudreau took the stage. Meredith Gaudreau was greeted at the podium to make Columbus’ selections with a standing ovation and “JOHNNY” chants. It was a very classy, heartfelt gesture on the part of Columbus as they welcomed their newest members to the Blue Jackets family.

As one can see, it was a fun, entertaining draft. All involved seemed to enjoy having the honor of welcoming new talent to the NHL. And we enjoyed seeing it all unfold. Congratulations to all of this year’s draftees.
