Chargers Minicamp and Camp Pendleton Play 60 Event
Los Angeles had a PACKED schedule today. Getting some time to gell together and then take a moment to proudly give back to the youth community. Today, the Chargers attended Minicamp and then went to Camp Pendleton for a Play 60 Event.
This was a mandatory minicamp that kicked off today. With the first day of practices taking place at military base, Camp Pendleton in Oceanside. This the first time the team has returned to the San Diego area/county since 2017.
Some quick intel from today’s events:
- Two tryouts players are at Chargers minicamp: S Tony Jefferson and WR Praise Olatoke
- According to Harbaugh… Slater, Johnson, Bozeman, Pipkins and (rookie) Alt have elevated themselves as starting OL
- Also Jim is “really encouraged” by where the team is at as a whole as minicamp begins today. Said some groups will be sorted out once the pads come on but that he has a good grasp on the vibe of the squad.
Nonetheless, NFL insider, Ian Rapoport reported on how the Bolts day would go. He reveals,
“Fun day for the Chargers: They have minicamp, then head to Camp Pendleton to host a Play 60 event for children on the base. There will be a walk-through in front of military, then a meet-and-greet with everyone.
A tradition for 30 years, this is the first time since COVID.”
Coach Jim Harbaugh was busy with the team, but he also took time to take pics with fans; and speak with the press. Many questions were brought forth about the team, including Harbaugh’s opinion on Chargers’ quarterback, Justin Herbert.
The Bolts and the QB position has been a source of pain for diehard fans. From the Eli Manning hoopla, to Drew Brees “being given up on” too soon plus sustaining a shoulder injury; and then watching both men gain championship rings. Getting a quarterback that can take the franchise to glory has so far alluded the NFL team.
However, this isn’t to say that the Chargers have not been competitive in the past. With Brees and Phillip Rivers at the helm, the lightening Bolts gave the league plenty of problems. But for some reason they just could not seem to get the job done in the end.

Nevertheless, fans want the job done more than ever. And they are hoping Herbert will be that guy. Yet, what does Harbaugh think? Regarding Justin, Jim states,
“He’s been incredible. I think it’s probably the reaction that everybody has. From my standpoint, I knew he was really good, but you’re right up next to him watching where you can feel the way the ball comes out of his hand.
When it comes out, it’s going a lot faster than you think, than it looks on tape. He’s bigger, taller than you’d think watching TV. Every kind of sense — smart.
It’s incredible the way he picks things up and masters things. Every detail, every small detail. The conditioning test was another eye-opener. Just when you think he can’t go another rung on the ladder of my esteem, anyway, he finds another one.”
Sounds positive. Last year, the Chargers finished dead last in the AFC West. With a record of 5-12. With Harbaugh, they hope to experience more winning and more success. In a few months, we’ll get to see if all the new changes and hard work can start to pay off.
