Celtics Jayson Tatum Out For Game 2 Versus The Orlando Magic
When a team is aiming to make a deep playoff run it is all hands on deck. Every player needs to be ON and ready for any and all challenges. However, Boston dropped a bombshell on Wednesday. The Celtics Jayson Tatum would be out for game 2 versus the Orlando Magic.
The Celtics won 103-86 on Sunday and is up 1 game to none in the best of 7 series. Tatum had a great appearance in game one of this matchup. Putting up 17 PTs, 14 REB, 4 AST and 1 STL. Derrick White also had himself a game. White went on to score 30 points, and Tatum showed much resilience staying in the game even after suffering a fall.
Tatum was injured towards the end of game one. When he collided with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Wendell Carter Jr. midair while driving for a two-handed dunk in the fourth quarter Sunday. He landed hard on his right wrist on the play.
Well, now it looks like the team is not taking any chances. Sources confirmed an hour or so before tip-off that Tatum will not be playing in Game 2. However, 24 hours beforehand the Celtics organization had even felt Tatum might not make an appearance in this second game; officially listing him as “doubtful” on Tuesday. Nonetheless, on Wednesday they also once more reported on the injury that Tatum had sustained and that he would not be available for the second game against the Magic. They state, “Injury Report update: Jayson Tatum (right distal radius bone bruise) – OUT.”

This decision is not too surprising considering what head coach Joe Mazzulla said in an earlier presser. According to Mazzulla, they were keeping a close eye on Tatum, while the player himself was doing all he could to be ready. Mazzulla mentions, “He’ll be day-to-day. We’ll see how he is when we get there. I know he’s doing everything he can to put himself into position to play.”
Nevertheless, it looks like Jayson is not quite there yet to be back on the court. But Boston fans should not panic. According to ESPN, “[Jayson Tatum] participated in parts of Boston’s practice session Tuesday. An MRI that day revealed the bone bruise. The Celtics were 53-19 with Tatum in the lineup and 8-2 without him, according to ESPN Research. Both of those losses were to the Magic, but [should be noted] Boston rested all its starters in the final meeting at Orlando on April 9.”
