Celtics Jaylen Brown Wins NBA Finals MVP After Boston Wins First Title Since 2008

It’s been 16 years. However, Boston has finally ended the NBA titles drought. After taking down the Dallas Mavericks 88-106 in game 5; the Celtics Jaylen Brown is named the NBA Finals MVP and they secure a title for the first time since 2008.

In 2008 Fergie was ruling the charts. Jolie and Pitt welcome twins. Christian Bales Batman was fighting the late Heath Ledger’s Joker. Britney Spears makes a comeback with “Circus.” And oh yeah… the 2007–2008 financial crisis, or the global financial crisis (GFC), was the most severe worldwide economic crisis since the Great Depression. But we digress.

Time has passed. And players, coaches and staff have changed. But, Boston fans can once more cheer as their city’s sports legacy continues to grow and deepen.

One of the Celtics that helped make this big win possible is Jaylen Brown. Brown came all the way through for Boston against the Mavericks. He made a serious statement during the Finals.

Jaylen averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and five assists throughout the series while shooting 44% from the field. He was a consistent force who refused to be silent in their 4-1 series win. How about in game 5? What was Brown’s impact in solidifying the 18th title for the Celtics franchise?

Brown finished game 5 with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists in their 106-88 win over the Mavericks on Monday night. Jaylen shot 7-of-23 from the field and made two 3-pointers.

Nonetheless, how does Brown feel about winning the MVP nod? Some players are speechless after winning. But not Brown, unsurprisingly he has the perfect response. Jaylen says,

“It was a full team effort, and a I share this with my brothers and my partner-in-crime Jayson Tatum;  (Brown said on ESPN after receiving the trophy). He was with me the whole way, so we share this sh*t together.”

Jaylen Brown has helped to silence any of his critics. And shown he is worthy of every single cent Boston wants to pay him. Just last offseason Brown signed the biggest contract in NBA history. Yet now, he is the 2024 Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP. He also won the Larry Bird Eastern Conference finals MVP award last round as the Celtics swept the Indiana Pacers to reach the Finals. The man is a WINNER.

Plus, he is going into the history books for yet another reason. He has now become the first player in the relatively brief history of the Larry Bird award to also take home the Finals MVP. Therefore, what a performance. What a season. And congratulations to the Celtics and Jaylen Brown on winning the 2024 NBA Championship and Brown for garnering MVP honors.
