CeeDee Lamb And Haason Reddick Not Reporting To Camp
Training camp is sometimes used to make a statement. When players want a new contract or extension they mays opt not to attend training camp. And that’s what’s going on with Cee Dee Lamb and Haason Reddick not reporting to training camp. Lamb is looking for a contract extension on his rookie deal. Whereas Reddick is looking for a new contract as he was traded to the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. Both players are in the final years of their respective contracts.
Lamb has stayed away from the Cowboys’ activities and his absence continues into training camp. Like fellow players QB Dak Prescott and LB Micah Parsons, they are all waiting for new contracts to get done. And all three are in line to receive mega new deals. However, it may be a matter of the salary cap. As reported back in April, extensions for Prescott and Lamb would decrease the Cowboys’ salary cap figures for 2024. Prescott currently counts $55.4 million against the cap, while Lamb is set to count $17.99 million thanks to the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. Lamb could be a candidate for the franchise tag if they are unable to work out a lucrative extension by next March.
Lamb is a top receiver in the league coming off his third straight Pro Bowl. In his four year career he has over 5,100 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns. Of his 395 receptions, 91 of them have been for 20+ yards. He’s right up there with the other top receivers like Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. All of whom have signed lucrative contracts this year. This likely has played a part in Lamb’s decision to boycott training camp. But it’s costing him $40,000 per day to do so.

Reddick is in the same boat as Lamb as he waits for the Jets to agree to a new deal. The last year of his contract carries a $14.25 million salary in 2024. While still with the Eagles in 2022, Reddick signed a three-year $45 million deal. However, Reddick wanted a new contract so the Eagles allowed him to be traded to the Jets. But after arriving at the Jets this offseason, Reddick still wanted new contract. But that hasn’t happened.
Hence he didn’t attend any offseason activities, including the mandatory minicamp in June. And his absence has continued with the start of training camp. As a result he will be fined $50,000 for every day of camp that he misses.
It looks like Lamb and Reddick have a lot of things in common, none of them good. Hopefully their contract situations get worked out quickly.
