Due to his efficient scoring he joins an exclusive club, and he still has more left in the tank. Seriously, when you have accomplished something that less than ten people in your sport have ever achieved; you know you did something major. The Cleveland Cavaliers James Harden becomes just the 9th player in NBA history to reach 29,000 points. Furthermore, he is also just the second player in NBA history with at least 29,000 points and 8,000 assists.
We are truly living through and witnessing a different era of players. There are several basketball veterans displaying great skill and longevity. Looking around the league we are still blessed to see the likes of LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Al Horford and Harden (among others); still going. They’re on the court, making a difference and breaking records or climbing charts.
Speaking of LeBron James, Harden and the Los Angeles star now share some unique basketball history. Of course, they both have now scored over 29K career points, but there’s more. As OptaStats confirms, “With four points against the 76ers tonight, James Harden will become the ninth player to score 29,000 points in NBA history. The only player in that group that also has at least 7000 career assists is LeBron James (11,892).” Harden is also the only player in NBA history to have 29,000 PTS and 3,000 3FGM.

Nevertheless, it was light work against a depleted 76ers for Harden to get to this elite distinction. With his 4th point of the night, a FT at the 4:03 mark of the 1Q, James Harden officially reached 29,000 career points.
Well, if Harden makes nine, who else is in the 29K or more points club? Who are the other eight players? Well, James joins some legendary company. Harden can now add his name with: Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Wilt Chamberlain.
So then, who is next? Who might join this group as well? The closest contenders are Russell Westbrook who has over 27,000 points and Golden State’s Steph Curry who has over 26,000. We’ll have to see how things shake out for these two great guys. However, for now huge congratulations to James Harden.
