Carolina Panthers are Promoting Dan Morgan to President of Football Operations and GM

There’s more new football front office moves today. The Carolina Panthers are promoting Dan Morgan to President of Football Operations and GM. Big responsibilities; but the franchise strongly believes he’s the right guy for the job. Ian Rapoport, a NFL insider for NFL.com is the first to break the news. Ian states,

“The Panthers are hiring Dan Morgan as their new GM, per me, James Palmer, and Tom Pelissero. After an exhaustive search, Carolina stays in-house.

A former Pro Bowl player in Carolina, Morgan has been assistant GM since 2021. Now promoted, he’ll work to hire the new coach.”

Furthermore, Tom Pelissero for NFL Network seconds the confirmation of this news regarding Dan Morgan. Pelissero adds,

“The Panthers are promoting Dan Morgan to President of football operations/general manager.

A Pro Bowl linebacker who helped lead Carolina to Super Bowl XXXVIII, Morgan rejoined the team in 2021 as assistant GM. Now, he moves into the top job.

‘Dan has a thorough knowledge of our football personnel and a clear vision to take us where we all want to go,’ Panthers owner David Tepper said. ‘We know he will attack this opportunity with the same intensity he did as a Panthers player.’”

As David Tepper says, Dan Morgan has extensive experience and a strong relationship with the Carolina Panthers. Being a former first-round pick of the Panthers in 2001, Morgan also played seven seasons for the franchise and has been in their front office for the last three years. Nevertheless, some fans may still not like the idea of the Panthers hiring from within. However, Carolina may just be looking at the guy’s resume; as a sign that he could just be the spark and catalyst that they need to ignite some serious winning.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter explored some elements of Dan’s career. Adam reveals,

“Panthers hired Dan Morgan as President of Football Operations — General Manager.

Drafted No. 11 overall by the Panthers in 2001.

Made the Pro Bowl in 2004.

Played seven seasons with the Panthers.

Ranks 10th in tackles in franchise history.

Worked in the Seahawks front office from 2010-2017.

Worked in the Bills front office from 2018-2020.

Has been assistant GM for the Panthers since 2021.”

Great intel. While Morgan was working in the FO for the Seahawks, Seattle won a Super Bowl (2014) and NFC championship (2015). Therefore, the Panthers are probably hoping Morgan can bring some of that SB and championship good vibes to Carolina. The Panthers have never won the Super Bowl; making them one of 12 NFL teams that have yet to experience such a win.
