Carlos Alcaraz Upset by Cameron Norrie at Paris Masters
Not the outcome many tennis fans were expecting. However, this is what we love about sports. ANYTHING can happen and alter/ change up rankings, points and court history. On Tuesday, such an event ensued as Carlos Alcaraz was upset by Cameron Norrie at the Paris Masters. Thus, leaving the doorway open for Jannik Sinner to retake the World No.1.
After the stunning defeat of Alcaraz, tennis journalist, José Morgado recounted the details of this tense matchup. Morgado mentions,
“Wow. Wow. Wow.
Cameron Norrie upsets world #1 Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the last 16 in Paris.
That’s the first time Alcaraz loses before a final since March. Surely his worst performance of the year.
Sinner will be back to #1 for a week if he wins Paris.”
Carlos Alcaraz had been unhappy with the court surface. Telling others that it was way too slow due to the clay. But despite this issue, Alcaraz also just did not play his best tennis. Carlos acknowledged this and the court situation after his match versus Norrie. Alcaraz states,
“I showed a wrong game strategy for this type of slow court. Things didn’t work out for me. It’s one of the worst matches of the year in terms of feelings. In Miami it was a physical issue, here it was different. I didn’t feel the ball well at any moment.
The sensations on the court felt good during practice. Today I didn’t feel as good, I froze. Now we’re heading back home to prepare for the Finals. This match is one I won’t watch again, I’ll try to forget it. There are matches to learn from, and from this one, I won’t take anything clear.”

Nevertheless, Norrie played smart and it paid off in a huge way. The world #1 is now out in the 2nd round. All while Cameron gets the biggest win of his life as he simultaneously snaps Carlos’ streak of 17 consecutive matches won in Masters events. Today also marks the first time that Norrie has won over a World No.1.
Cameron is very proud of his growth, determination and his performance. After his amazing win Norrie says, “Massive. So big for me. I’ve been coming back from my injury.. last year I lost first round of qualies here. Just trying to enjoy my tennis the 2nd half of the year. I was able to do that.
To get a win like this.. this is the biggest win of my career, my first over a world #1. Especially probably the most confident player in the world right now.. him and Sinner combined. So pleased with the way I did it. Having a lot of chances and having to keep pushing and keep going for more. I was able to stay tough and get the win. I’m really pleased.”
