For the LOU!! Welcome back Matt Carpenter. It’s a beautiful reunion going down in St. Louis today. The Cardinals sign Matt Carpenter to an 1 Year contract for 2024.
The ball club could not wait to share the news around midday on Friday. Via social media the MLB organization reveals,
“Welcome back, Matt! We have signed three-time All-Star INF Matt Carpenter to a one-year contract for the 2024 season.”
A very nice welcome back for Matt. Carpenter had short stints with the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres. However, now he is “home.” St. Louis gave Matt his start in his baseball career. The Cardinals selected him in the 13th round during the 2009 MLB Draft.
Yet, some fans may not be so happy about this decision to bring Carp back to the Cards roster. Matt did not have the best 2023 season statistically. Also, before the Yankees he seemed to be declining.
However, Cardinals broadcaster as well as Radio Sports Director, Tom Ackerman, of KMOX SPORTS 1120 AM, feels this move is still a nice one for Cardinals; despite of course, it being full of nostalgia and memories for the fanbase. Ackerman states,
“Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not overthinking this Carp signing. Bench bat. Good guy. Longtime veteran giving it another go.
Another voice. Might make it through spring, might not. Understands the game. Inexpensive. No risk. His name just happens to be Matt Carpenter.”

Nevertheless, Matt is absolutely thrilled to be back in the Cardinals organization. He took to social media to share his enthusiasm for the upcoming season. Not only did he have a short message for fans, but he already has a profile picture change reflecting today’s news and events.
His pic shows him in a Cardinals jersey. Nice touch. Nonetheless, his message on X (formerly Twitter); states,
“Let’s go St.Louis! Gonna be a huge year for the 2024 Redbirds! And I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it.”
Well, we are happy for Matt. And hope that Cardinals fans and Carpenter enjoy the 24’ season. Nonetheless, one last detail to mention. MONEY.
Yes, what will Matt be making in 2024? One word: BANK. Sports journalist, Ken Rosenthal mentions,
“Carpenter deal is for $740K, source says. Braves responsible for remainder of $5.5M guarantee.”
