Cal Raleigh Ties Salvador Perez Catcher Home Run Season Record From 2021

This Mariners ballplayer is having not only a career season; but one of the most historic seasons for a catcher. He’s slugging it like the greats of old, while cementing his name for generations to come. And on Sunday he was at it again. This time, Seattle’s Cal Raleigh ties Salvador Perez’s catcher home run single season record from 2021.

Yes, at just 28 years old, Cal Raleigh joins Salvador Perez with the most home runs by a catcher in a single season. Raleigh launched his 48th home run with an exit velocity of 110.9mph, at a 32 degree launch angle; traveling some 448 feet. It had a hang time of 5.3 seconds. A massive dinger.

Nonetheless, Cal’s number 48 goes into the history books; tying Salvador Perez for the most homers in a single season by a player with at least 75% of games as a catcher. Only three catchers have hit at least 45 home runs in a season. They are:

1970 Jonny Bench: 45

2021 Salavador Perez: 48

2025 Cal Raleigh: 48

If you have been keeping track there are now five players that have hit at least 40 home runs this season. And these gentlemen are topping the list for most dingers this year. Here is a quick look at the Top Five home run leaders for 2025.

You’ll no doubt find several names that are not too surprising. Such as the New York Yankees Aaron Judge and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani. Two athletes who have been home run leaders for several seasons.

Additionally, there are now two Seattle Mariners who have hit 40 homers. Thanks to Seattle getting a big bat from the Diamondbacks. Just a few weeks ago the Mariners traded prospects Tyler Locklear, Hunter Cranton, and Juan Burgos to get Suárez from Arizona. And Eugenio continues to smash baseballs into oblivion. Hitting his 40th of the season just a day ago. Nevertheless, here is the top five:

Mariners- Cal Raleigh: 48

Phillies- Kyle Schwarber: 45

Dodgers- Shohei Ohtani: 44

Mariners- Eugenio Suarez: 40

Yankees- Aaron Judge: 40

With over 30 games left in the season, Cal Raleigh still has plenty of opportunities to break the MLB catcher home run single season record. We tip our caps to him on an already impressive season; winning the home run derby as well as leading the league in homers this year. And we hope Big Dumper will be able to get it done; and get this record!
