The WNBA’s big superstar just found out that the very place she made history in college; is going to be the venue she is recognized in an upcoming ceremony. On Wednesday it was revealed that Caitlin Clark will have her jersey number retired by Iowa.

Iowa hasn’t revealed too about this much thus far. However, they did manage to still whip Clark’s and basketball fans into a frenzy with one simple, brief post. On social media platform X, the school released a video post with the caption, “To the rafters. 2.2.25.”

So reading between the lines it’s easy to draw the conclusion that Caitlin will have her number retired this upcoming February 2, 2025. A very fitting date (the second month, second day) since Clark wore the number 22 while playing for Iowa. Nevertheless, if you are curious what was included in the video attached to Iowa’s announcement post. It featured a thrilling clip of Caitlin’s record breaking play on the court.

Clark’s popularity only continues to grow since her college days. Just two days ago the social account for the Indiana Fever posted a video of Clark’s first practice with new coach Stephanie White. The video has garnered close to 2 million views. Let that sink in. Just a practice is gaining that many eyes.

What about Iowa’s video of retiring Clark’s jersey? In less than three hours it had amassed over 350k views. Thus only further proving that Caitlin is a star and people love her. And she has forever changed the WNBA.

In her TIME magazine interview, Caitlin acknowledged her impact stating, “I’ve been able to captivate so many people that have never watched women’s sports, let alone women’s basketball, and turn them into fans.” Never truer words spoken. The WNBA delivered its most-watched regular season in 24 years, finished with its highest attendance in 22 years and set records for digital consumption and merchandise sales in 2024.

And the historic vibes will continue next year. When Caitlin Clark’s jersey number is retired and sent to the pearly rafters up above in early 2025.
