Caitlin Clark Sets NCAA All-Time Scoring Record Passing Pete Maravich

Caitlin Clark Sets NCAA All-Time Scoring Record Passing Pete Maravich

Disbelief. Shock. Caitlin Clark sets the NCAA All-Time Scoring Record passing Pete Maravich and she is almost at a lost for words. However, the sports world is not.

Moments after Clark takes the top spot, NBA megastar, Lebron James; goes online to congratulate Caitlin. Very fitting, since not too long ago; James himself became the NBA’s All Time Leading Scorer; dethroning the great, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Nonetheless, he keeps it sweet and to the point. James goes, “Congrats Caitlin Clark on becoming the All-Time leading scorer!!”

We love to see it. One great recognizing another. Respect.

Nevertheless, after a game in which Clark yet again rewrites the history books. And once more etches her talents into the ‘icons and legends’ realm. Clark seems to barely be able to believe it herself; what she has done and accomplished. When asked how it feels to break the record, Caitlin states,

It’s really crazy to think about. Honestly, if you would’ve told me that when my college career started, I would’ve laughed in your face, like ‘no you’re insane.'”

Is it really insane though? Caitlin has been on fire throughout college, and this season has played out no differently. This season Clark averaged 32 points a game and went HAM; putting up an insane 49 points during a single game outing. She’s been dominant. She’s been HER.

As for last tonight… in a matchup against Ohio State, Clark goes into the game only needing less than 20 points in order to snatch the record from Pete Maravich. A scoring record that has stood strong for 54 years. The NPR nicely summarizes the now historic final game of the season. They mention,

“Clark entered her last regular-season game 17 points shy of Pete Maravich’s career record of 3,667 points. She passed the record, which has stood since 1970, with a free-throw toward the end of the first half.

Clark showed no reaction after the shot that took her to 3,668 points. In an interview at half-time, Clark said she wasn’t aware she’d broken the record in that moment.

‘When they announced it and everybody screamed — that’s when I knew,’ she said.”

Focused on the game, and not a record, awesome. Nevertheless, Ohio State put up a good fight, but they would lose the battle. Iowa wins 83-93, improving their final standing to 26-4. Great game, and congratulations to Caitlin Clark for outscoring all D1 basketball players; rather men or women. Truly, HER-storic.
