Caitlin Clark is Named MVP of 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament

She is an offensive scoring machine. Not only creating good looks for herself, but facilitating opportunities for her teammates as well. It’s this very on court acumen that helped Team USA go undefeated (5-0) at the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. Therefore, Indiana’s superstar has definitely earned this latest accolade. Caitlin Clark is the MVP of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

The USA Basketball Women’s team just put the world on notice and made a major statement during their five game stint at qualifiers. They demonstrated beyond a doubt that American hoops is elite and only getting better. The USA didn’t just edge out their competition, they obliterated them.

During their first four games against nations such as Senegal, Italy, New Zealand and Puerto Rico (the host of the tournament); the USA won by 30-60+ points. Their final game versus Spain also included a double digit victory. Team USA buried their competition in points and these opposing teams could not seem to dig themselves out.

Clark had a double-double in her USA Basketball debut, logging 17 points and 12 assists over 20 minutes against Senegal on March 11. Her lone game as one of the five starters came against New Zealand. Team USA would win this matchup by more than 50 points. Caitlin scored 14 points with six assists against New Zealand, just one day after putting up 12 points and five assists against Italy.

For the tournament, Clark averaged 11.6 points and 6.2 assists. Caitlin also led the U.S. in points (58), assists (32) and minutes (105:56). Therefore, in a nutshell:

• Led Team USA in efficiency

Very impressive since these FIBA matches were her first games in eight months. She played five games in seven days during the tournament, a good test after several soft tissue injuries derailed her second season in the WNBA.

Clark told the Indianapolis Star (part of the USA TODAY network), “I feel like I put myself in the best possible shape that I could be in at this point. Sometimes almost the first game is the hardest, but once you get in kind of the flow of things, and you figure things out, and you kind of get your wind back, you’re in a little bit better of a position.” Well, she definitely reached flow state in this qualification tournament and put on a great performance.
