Buffalo Bills Versus 49ers Garnered 22.5 million Viewers; Tie for Second-Most Watched NBC SNF Week 13 Game

Everyone loves playing in the snow. And apparently millions of NFL fans love watching football players play in it as well. This week Sunday Night Football got a very nice boost in viewership. The Buffalo Bills versus 49ers garnered 22.5 million viewers; which is a tie for the second-most watched NBC SNF Week 13 game. Well, at least since the series began in 2006.

Nevertheless, while most might focus on the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Packers, Steelers or Kansas City Chiefs as being draws. The Bills are not to be secluded from the high TV ratings list. In fact, you don’t have to go back far to see evidence.

Even in November (Week 11)  Buffalo was making viewership waves. According to Sports Business Journal’s Austin Karp, an average of 31.2 million viewers tuned in to see Buffalo’s home win which snapped Kansas City’s unbeaten record and improved the Bills to 9-2 for the first time since 1992.

Of course, some would make the argument that the popularity of the Chiefs helped. And that’s fair. A multi-champion team can definitely have that effect. But last Sunday Buffalo was not playing against Mahomes and company; and still grabbed a sizable audience.

This season NFL Game broadcasts are averaging 17.3 million viewers, which is the highest figure through Week 10 since 2015. And the Bills battle against the 49ers surpassed the average. And it was a darn fun game to watch. Barrett Media reported on Sunday’s winter wonderland game between Buffalo and San Francisco. They explain,

“Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen passed for 148 yards and two touchdowns, leading his team to a 35-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in prime-time on Sunday Night Football. With the victory, which took place after approximately 18 inches of snow buried Highmark Stadium, the Bills secured a postseason berth by clinching the AFC East division for the fifth consecutive year. The broadcast on NBC and Peacock attained a total audience delivery of 22.5 million viewers, according to data from Nielsen Media Research and Adobe Analytics, representing the second-most watched Week 13 game in the history of NBC Sunday Night Football.”

Nice. Well, fans seem to be enjoying the season. And now we get to kick back and see which teams will make it to the Super Bowl. If the Bills do, at least the NFL will not have to worry about viewers tuning in.
