Buffalo Bills Have Extended Wide Receiver Khalil Shakir
It’s the time of year when teams are assessing and analyzing who they have on their roster. They have to determine who will get to stay and who will have to go. Some players make it easy for an organization to want to keep them on the team. It was clearly an easy decision for the Buffalo Bills because they have extended their top wide receiver Khalil Shakir. The team announced on their website today that they agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension that runs through 2029 for Shakir.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter provided more details on the extension:
“Bills and wide receiver Khalil Shakir reached agreement today on a four-year contract extension worth up to $60.2 million, including $32 million guaranteed at signing with $18 million paid in the first 12 months. The deal ties him to Buffalo through the 2029 season. Deal was negotiated by @EquitySports Co-Directors of Football Sam Mirza and Derek Hawkridge along with CEO Chris Cabott.”
In the 2022 NFL Draft, the Bills drafted Shakir in the fifth round, the 148th overall pick. He started in two games his rookie season but played in 15 games during the season. Shakir finished the 2023 season with 611 receiving yards and two touchdowns, catching 39 of 45 targets, which was the top catch percentage by any receiver in the league at 86.7%. He continued to help the Bills in the playoffs, catching a touchdown in both their games.
However, in 2024 he produced his best work in various categories. He led the Bills in targets (100), receptions (76) and receiving yards (821) in 2024, all career-highs for the 2022 5th round selection. He also posted a career-high four touchdown receptions.

Speaking from the NFL Combine Bills GM Brandon Beane confirmed the news. “We got that finalized today, but I would say the last day or two, you felt like it was trending in the right direction,” he said. “We’re excited to keep Khalil, here for another four years beyond the one year he had remaining.” And he added, “He just shows up every single day. He’s Mr. Dependable. And when the ball is thrown his way, he usually comes down with it.”
No doubt quarterback Josh Allen is happy to have his sure-handed pass catcher remain onboard. Especially after he lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis at the end of the 2023 season. Perhaps this extension will get the team one step closer to that elusive Super Bowl quest.
