Buffalo Bills Break The Bank For Reigning MVP Josh Allen
They have been busy as bees this week getting their top players re-signed. We talked about the deal Khalil Shakir received, 4-years, $53 million and there were more after him. Just yesterday they re-signed DE Gregory Rousseau for 4 years, $80 million. And they took care of LB Terrell Bernard with a 4-year, $50M million contract. But all of that fades into the background as today the Buffalo Bills are breaking the bank for the reigning NFL MVP quarterback Josh Allen. They reached agreement on a record-setting six-year, $330 million contract through the 2030 season that includes $250 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday.
That’s incredible and that $279.2 million salary cap for the 2025 NFL season is definitely coming in handy. Allen now has the largest guaranteed total ever given to an NFL player. But he has put in the work to earn it. He is the first player in NFL history to record at least 25 touchdown passes, 10 touchdown runs and fewer than 10 interceptions in a season. Allen finished with 28 touchdown passes, 12 rushing touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
This all came about despite Allen having four years left on his deal. Perhaps the Bills decided to reward him for leading the Bills to six consecutive AFC East titles. Or for his 119.6 passer rating which was the fourth highest in NFL history. He joins the company of Aaron Rodgers (2011, 2020) and Peyton Manning (2004) who also were MVP’s when they led in passer rating during their seasons.
It’s been good times for the amiable quarterback. As noted by Adam Schefter:
“Josh Allen’s last 100 days:
11/29/24: Josh Allen gets engaged to Hailee Steinfeld.
2/6/25: Josh Allen wins NFL MVP.
3/9/25: Josh Allen agrees to a 6-year, $330M contract.”
So it’s really good to be Josh Allen right now. Hopefully he will be able to get the monkey off his back and get that coveted Super Bowl victory.
Buffalo Bills Break The Bank For Reigning MVP Josh Allen
Although things are going well for Allen, the same can’t be said for outside linebacker Von Miller. The Buffalo Bills are releasing Miller in a move that will save $8.4 million in salary cap space, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday.
Miller had signed with the Bills ahead of the 2022 season on a massive six-year, $120 million deal. This time last year the Bills had cut veterans Tre’Davious White and Jordan Poyer while keeping Miller who restructured his contract. But his production wasn’t enough to keep him on the roster. He had six sacks in 13 games for Buffalo in 2024. But he had none and just one tackle in three playoff games.
Where else the Bills’ axe may fall we don’t know yet. So stay tuned as events develop.
