Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo Open-Minded About Leaving Milwaukee
This news is not too shocking for NBA fans. It seemed like a possibility; especially, giving how the season ended for the franchise. Nevertheless, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday that the Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo is apparently open-minded about leaving Milwaukee.
At 30 years old Antetokounmpo has not made any firm decisions as of yet. But as time passes he seems to be willing to at least consider a trade. Milwaukee enjoyed a pretty solid 2024-2025 regular season. Winning 48 games, which was good enough to snatch the fifth seed in the eastern conference.
However, the Bucks playoffs did not go so well. They were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers, who absolutely dominated them. And to add insult to injury, Damien Lillard sustained a season ending injury. Suffering a torn left Achilles tendon during Game 4.
Watching the series it was noticeable that Giannis was doing a lot of heavy lifting. However, there is no “I” in team. It is teams, a solid grouping of players that win championships together, every man needs at least some additional help.

ESPN’s Shams Charania noted this particular aspect of Antetokounmpo‘s role with the Bucks. Revealing one reason for a possible trade is that Giannis is looking for a team that could provide more support on the court. Charania reveals,
“Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has not made any firm decisions, but for the first time in his career, he is open-minded about whether his best fit is remaining in Milwaukee – or playing elsewhere, league sources told ESPN.
But this summer sets up a potential crossroads in his career in Milwaukee, which, after nine consecutive playoff appearances and two major trades for point guards, finds its resources depleted.
This offseason, however, represents incredible challenges to the Bucks’ ability to elevate the roster due to lacking high-valued tradable contracts, having a limited number of picks due to those acquisitions, and dealing with top-heavy salaries.
Still, the Bucks have won just one playoff series since the franchise’s NBA championship in 2021, and Antetokounmpo has stated repeatedly that he desires to win multiple titles in his career. The Bucks and Antetokounmpo’s representatives, Giorgios Panou and Alex Saratsis, are expected to sit down during the offseason to discuss the future, sources said.”
Yes, winning is fully on Giannis’ mind. And no doubt he will consider which teams will give him the best chance. Antetokounmpo said in podcast with his brother, “Me not having a second championship — I look back at my career and everybody can say, ‘Oh, incredible career, active Hall of Famer, first ballot, whatever.’ But me, my personal goal, if I am not able to help my team win a second ring, I’m letting down myself.”
