Bryce Young And Jameis Winston Will Start On Sunday

Things can change in the blink of an eye and that’s always true when it comes to the NFL. Due to quarterback injuries two backup players will be back on the field. Bryce Young of the Panthers and Jameis Winston of the Browns will start on Sunday for their respective teams. Young lost his job to veteran Andy Dalton after underwhelming performances in the first two weeks of the season. However, Dalton was involved in a car accident on Tuesday. Although emergency transport was not needed, per head coach Dave Canales, Dalton has a sprained right thumb. Dalton did not practice on Wednesday. Canales said he wants to wait and see if Dalton will be able to serve as a backup this week.

Young spoke to reporters on Wednesday. He said he is just taking things day by day and not getting caught up in what a return to the field could mean long-term.

“It’s obviously difficult,” Young said of the aftermath of his benching. “I think regardless of walk of life you can relate to this. Trying to do the right things and be consistent in what you do. … Definitely there were struggles. I’m not the only person going through something. I’m not the only person struggling. … I just have to continue to be consistent.”

If he plays well then the QB1 position could be his again, but we’ll wait and see.

As for the Cleveland Browns, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday that Jameis Winston will make his first start. Stefanski also will be relinquishing play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. He said the plan is for Dorsey to continue calling plays moving forward for the remainder of the season.

Before the week 7 game, Cleveland had promoted Dorian Thompson-Robinson to QB2. However, he jammed a finger on his throwing hand and had to leave the game. They will monitor him for the rest of the week to see if he will be the backup to Winston. Earlier this week, the Browns signed Bailey Zappe to the active roster off the Chiefs practice squad. Stefanski said they have to bring Zappe up to speed on their offense. So we’ll have to wait to see who will backup Winston.

When Winston starts on Sunday he will be up against a tough opponent. The Browns will host the surging Baltimore Ravens coming off a big win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, Winston a 10-year veteran, did lead a touchdown drive late in the loss to the Bengals last week. So perhaps he can bring some stability to the struggling offense.
