Broncos and Nik Bonitto Agree to 4-Year $120 Million Extension; Highest Non-QB in Broncos Franchise History

Another day, another deal. This offseason players have been shown the money, and another contract has been completed right at the buzzer before the start of the season. This time between Denver and their star pass rusher. The Denver Broncos and Nik Bonitto agree to a 4-year $120 million contract extension.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on the Broncos contract news stating,

“Sources: The Broncos and star edge Nik Bonitto agreed to terms on a new extension, as he gets a 4-year deal worth up to $120M max with $70M guaranteed.

Bonitto cashes in after a career year in his first full season as a starter in a deal done by Tory Dandy of Athletes First.”

Adam Schefter also briefly addressed Bonitto’s extension. Highlighting the historical significance when it comes to how much he will be paid as a Denver Bronco. Schefter reveals,

“Another deal in Denver: Nik Bonitto and the Broncos reached agreement today on a four-year extension worth up to $120 million, including $70 million guaranteed. Bonitto is now the highest paid non-qb in Broncos’ franchise history in a deal negotiated by Tory Dandy of Athletes First.”

According to NFL.com, at $26.5 million per year, Nik Bonitto now ranks 10th among edge rushers in average annual value. Bonitto, 25, was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, but the Broncos weren’t about to let him get within the area code of the open market, as they’ve locked up the 2024 Pro Bowler after a career year.

Bonitto earned a nice payday by playing extremely well. Nik is coming off a breakout season with 13.5 sacks and two defensive touchdowns — and now gets rewarded in a major way. And with youth on his side the Broncos could see even more outstanding production.

Furthermore, Bonitto was a second-round pick in 2022 and he had 9.5 sacks while playing a rotational role during his first two seasons. However, he became a full-time starter for the first time last season, producing a career-best 13.5 sacks and 48 tackles in 2024, helping the Broncos return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season.

He also recorded 92 tackles, an interception, four forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. Bonitto returned both the interception and fumble for touchdowns during his breakout 2024 season. If he stays healthy Denver has got themselves a guy who will make a noticeable impact for years to come.
