San Francisco is playing in the Super Bowl and this could lead to even more sport’s history ramifications. How so? Well, quarterback Brock Purdy could be the 3rd Mr. Irrelevant to win the Super Bowl with a championship win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
And it would occur in a very short amount of career playing time. The very NOT “Irrelevant” Brock Purdy was selected by the 49ers with the 262nd and final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Yet, just two years later we find Purdy and the 9ers battling it out during Super Bowl 58.

However, Mr. Purdy will not be the first Mr. Irrelevant to play in a Super Bowl period and win it all. A few others have already beat him to the punch. Therefore, Brock shall be the third final pick of a draft to make it to the big show.
According to Yahoo Sports, Purdy even just making it to the SB is incredible. Yahoo reveals,
Purdy would not become the first “Mr. Irrelevant” to win the Super Bowl. He would be the third.
Moore was the first “Mr. Irrelevant” to play in a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 1997, but lost to the Green Bay Packers.
In 2001, he made it back to the Super Bowl with the Patriots and became the first “Mr. Irrelevant” to win the Super Bowl. That Super Bowl was the first of quarterback Tom Brady’s career.
In 2021, Succop became the first “Mr. Irrelevant” to start in a Super Bowl when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Chiefs, who drafted him in 2009.
As one can see, the list is short. Doesn’t happen a lot. Therefore, Brock has a grand opportunity to get his name etched in the NFL history books.

Seriously, though, what Purdy is doing in professional football is nothing short of impressive. Guys who are picked towards the end of the draft are usually deemed as not as “good.” However, Brock once again proves why every pick in the draft is important because you never know who will prove to be a diamond in the rough.
Nonetheless, it’s still a pretty huge mountain to climb being the final pick. To put it in perspective, Yahoo Sports continues,
Reaching the Super Bowl is a historic feat for Purdy, Moore and Succop. Since the Super Bowl Era started in 1966, only 26 of “Mr. Irrelevants” have played a game in the NFL, per USA Today.
