Brewers Jackson Chourio Becomes 5th Youngest Player to Hit Home Run in Postseason

Ah… “zeeee youth.” Yesterday, the San Diego Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. got the playoffs home runs going with a first inning blast to left field during game one. But on Wednesday, Milwaukee’s ‘young blood’ rookie wanted to join the baseball obliteration party as well. In a must win game against the New York Mets, the Brewers Jackson Chourio becomes the 5th youngest player to hit a home run in the postseason.

Playing well in the postseason is no small task. Some players and teams freeze up like a deer in the headlights. Hence why we even have a saying about the lights being too bright.

Sometimes the added pressure of the playoffs is just too much for some to handle. Guys who are a tower and powerhouse during the regular season can just go quietly into the night of the postseason. It just happens.

However, Jackson Chourio has been able to manage the nerves for the most part and do his best. Case in point, coming to the plate during game 2 of the wild card series and smashing. He hits a home run to right field and it just goes back and back; until it ends up in the hands of fans. A real beauty. Therefore, let the history books state: The Brewers sensation Jackson Chourio (20 years, 205 days) hits leadoff dinger to tie Game 2 – fifth youngest player to HR in postseason.

Additionally, as Sarah Langs confirms,

“At 20 years & 205 days, Jackson Chourio is the youngest player in postseason history with a leadoff HR only players to HR in PS at a younger age: 1996 Andruw Jones 2003 Miguel Cabrera 2012 Bryce Harper 2012 Manny Machado.

Interestingly, Chourio’s first home run in the postseason came in the first inning of the game. Just like Fernando Tatis Jr. But we digress.

However, even though it looks like the Mets will prove to be too much for Milwaukee (at the time of this posting Milwaukee is down 3-1). The Brewers still have to feel pretty good about when it comes to their future with Jackson. Chourio also made history during game one of this series versus the Mets. As MLB.com reports:

“20-year-old rookie Jackson Chourio did something nobody has done before in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series.
At 20 years, 204 days of age, the outfielder from Maracaibo, Venezuela, became the youngest player in Major League history to tally multiple hits in his postseason debut, and he made them count. Chourio delivered a single and a run scored in Milwaukee’s two-run first inning and a game-tying RBI single in a go-ahead two-run fourth.”

Nice. It’s great to see the new young generation thriving in baseball. And we can’t wait to see what they do in the coming years and seasons.
