Braves Jurickson Profar Suspended For 80 Games For Violating MLB’s PED Policy
A tale as old as time, or at least 90’s baseball. The league has tried to bury this era, move on from this past relationship; but here and there we still get reminders from the ‘old ex.’ The latest incident comes from down in Atlanta. The Braves Jurickson Profar is being suspended for 80 games for violating MLB’s PED policy.
According to sources Profar is out for the next 80-games for testing positive for Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG), a performance enhancing substance. The Braves organization shared their thoughts and sentiments on this latest matter and development. The ball club says,
“We were surprised and extremely disappointed to learn that Jurickson Profar tested positive for a performance enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program. We fully support the Program and are hopeful
that Jurickson will learn from this experience.”
ESPN’s Jeff Passan also confirmed the suspension news moments later. He reports, “Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar is being suspended for 80 games for violating MLB’s PED policy, sources confirm to ESPN. First with the news was Mike Rodriguez.”
Atlanta is already getting off to quite the rough start during the 2025 season. They began the year with a matchup against the San Diego Padres where they had very few answers for SD’s offense and extraordinary pitching performances by King, Cease, Vasquez and Pivetta.
When the four game series was said and done. The Braves found themselves leaving Petco Park with four losses and a Padres sweep. Now they find themselves down a player who brings a nice defensive pop to the table and their roster. But the show must go on.
Profar Statement on 80 Game Suspension
Furthermore, Jurickson Profar released a statement after news of his suspension hit. He states,
“Braves fans,
Today is the most difficult day of my baseball career. I am devastated to announce that I have been suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball and the Commissioner’s office, for testing positive for a banned substance this offseason. This is especially painful for me because anyone who knows me and has seen me play knows I am deeply passionate about the game.
There is nothing I love more than competing with my teammates and being a fan favorite.
I want to apologize to the entire Braves organization, my teammates, and the fans. It is because of my deep love and respect for this game that I would never knowingly do anything to cheat it.
I have been tested my entire career, including eight times last season alone, and have never tested positive. I would never willingly take a banned substance, but I take full responsibility and accept MLB’s decision.
[So I] am devastated that I won’t be on the field with my teammates for the next 80 games. I look forward to competing again at the highest level this season upon my return.”

This is definitely not the news the Braves wanted to begin their season. They have some work to do to get out of their opening week slump and there’s plenty of games left in order to make that happen. However, what about Profar’s position in left field?
There’s options. With the loss of Jurickson Profar to suspension, Atlanta has Jarred Kelenic, Bryan De La Cruz, Eli White, Alex Verdugo and Stuart Fairchild among the options to help on the corners. And they should get some more offensive spring in their step down the road. Ronald Acuña Jr.’s return is still weeks away, but that obviously can’t come soon enough. Especially, with them now being in blue men town.
The Braves next play a juggernaut. A series with the World Champions; the Los Angeles Dodgers. This will be another big test for Atlanta on the field as they face off with another National League threat.
