Brandon Drury Ejected and Suspended For 1 Day Over ‘Ump Contact’
Brandon Drury ejected and suspended for one day doesn’t even seem real. For one thing, the guy is SUPER quiet. Never really says much in interviews (but is still always extremely polite and pleasant); and is just simply “a man of few words.”
Therefore, to see a guy such as Drury get ejected WITH a suspension almost feels as far-fetched as a Sci-Fi drama. Dude is chill, and just good at his job. Nonetheless, here we are. So what the heck happened?
Brandon Drury Ejection
If you saw the game live or watch some highlights, you instantly see that Brandon had a very valid reason to be upset. The issue all starts over another blown call by an official umpire. A call which leads to Drury being called out on strikes.
The Angels were in an INTENSE battle all game long with the Rangers. Back and forth. Everything you want in a baseball matchup.
The fight eventually leads to a tie; and the teams having to play in extra innings. Drury is up to bat in the 10th, so no doubt he’s feeling the pressure to get the big “W.” However, Brandon is consistently raking this season so he is definitely a guy up for the task.
Nevertheless, the Angels have a man on third, and one out when Drury steps up to the plate. On the strikeout out ball, it’s way too low and also out of the zone; but the call doesn’t go Drury’s way. Brandon, rightfully upset to be called out on an obvious Ball pitch starts mouthing off at the umpire. Completely frustrating.

Flash forward 12 hours, and now Drury is also being accused of making contact with the home plate umpire. Personally, I didn’t see any contact. Therefore, it’s kind of understandable why Brandon is repealing the suspension. It’s one thing receiving discipline over something you actually did; but to stretch and say there is also contact; just seems a little much.
Moreover, MLB Network insider, Mark Feinsand has a quick update on the situation this afternoon. Feinsand reveals,
“Angels INF Brandon Drury has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for making contact with umpire Ramon De Jesus. The suspension had been scheduled to begin tonight, but Drury has elected to appeal. So it will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.”
Crazy. None of us like bad calls during close games. So hang in there Drury.
