Brandon Aiyuk And 49ers Finally Agreed On Contract Extension

It’s been a long and contentious offseason trying to get a deal done. But Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers have finally agreed on a contract extension. There are so many interesting tidbits about this deal that were highlighted by Adam Schefter. First off the details of the deal:

There will be no trade: the 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk reached agreement today on a four-year extension that will contractually tie the wide receiver to San Francisco for the next five seasons, per ESPN sources. The drama is over and a deal – not a trade – is in place.

They reached an agreement on a 4-year, $120 million extension

So that’s good that Aiyuk will be with the team for years to come. However, apparently not getting a deal done didn’t need to drag on for so long. Adam Schefter went on to reveal that:

In the end, Brandon Aiyuk accepted the same deal that has been on the table since August. 12, per league sources. His hold-in did not alter any part of his new four-year, $120 million extension. He took the same deal that had been there in previous weeks. Hold-in over.

And we were reminded of all the microaggressions that took place throughout the offseason:

Brandon Aiyuk’s offseason included a public trade request, tweeting at Mike Tomlin, posting photos with Jayden Daniels, sharing a FaceTime with Daniels saying “they don’t want me back,” getting permission to negotiate a contract with other teams, and nearly being traded multiple times. In the end, both sides came together, and Aiyuk signed a long-term deal with San Francisco.

Despite the drama this new extension makes Aiyuk the sixth highest paid receiver. But is he worth the money? His stats say absolutely.

He amassed a career-high 1,342 receiving yards along with 75 receptions and seven touchdowns. It was his second straight 1,000-yard campaign. Aiyuk has had at least 55 catches, 745 yards and five TDs in each of his four years. Certainly the team is happy to have their star wide receiver back in the fold.

With all of that wrapped up the team can now turn their attention to offensive tackle Trent Williams. He has been holding out of training camp, being fined $50,000.00 per day for doing so. However, he has been a Pro Bowler in 11 straight seasons and a first-team All-Pro the past three. Williams is definitely an elite offensive linemen. No doubt QB Brock Purdy wants a deal to get done sooner rather than later.
