Brain Daboll Latest NFL Coach Fired By The New York Giants
He is the second coaching casualty of the 2025 NFL season. Last month the Tennessee Titans parted ways with Brian Callahan just six weeks into the season. And now another team has made a change at the head coach position. Brian Daboll is the latest NFL coach to be fired by the New York Giants. However, they will retain general manager Joe Schoen. Mike Kafka who was an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator will serve as the Giants’ interim coach.
It comes as no surprise that Daboll has been relieved of his duties considering how terribly the Giants have performed over the past couple of seasons. Things weren’t always so terrible as Daboll earned the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year title having led the Giants to nine regular-season victories. Along with clinching the team’s first playoff berth in six years and its first postseason victory in 11 seasons. But despite that success, overall Daboll’s record was 20-40-1 during his three and a half seasons with the team.
After giving up another double-digit lead and losing to the Bears yesterday it was the Giant’s fourth consecutive loss. Even with a losing record the players seemed to love their coach. “I think so,” veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton told the New York Post on Wednesday when asked if the duo should be retained. “It’s been three years, I think another year to try to give him a chance to really get things rolling would be warranted.”
Outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux had said back in January this year: “As a coach, I love him. I think he’s a great coach and I think he’s a player’s coach. I think he has great philosophies,” he said. But player support wasn’t enough to keep Daboll in his job. And speaking of players it looked as if the Giants had built a good core group of players.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart had won two of his first three starts and running back Cam Skattebo was a wrecking ball type running back. Both of them infused enthusiasm into the fanbase. But unfortunately, Skattebo suffered a season-ending dislocated ankle. And Dart had to leave the game against the Bears yesterday in the second half due to a concussion. We will never know if these two players could have salvaged Daboll’s tenure with the Giants.
Instead president John Mara and chairman Steve Tisch issued a joint statement:
“The past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we have not met our expectations for this franchise. We understand the frustrations of our fans, and we will work to deliver a significantly improved product.
“We appreciate Coach Daboll for his contributions to our organization. We wish the Daboll family all the best in the future.”

The two also commented on Joe Schoen keeping his general manager position stating:
“We feel like Joe has assembled a good young nucleus of talent, and we look forward to its development,” said Mara. “Unfortunately, the results over the past three years have not been what any of us want. We take full responsibility for those results and look forward to the kind of success our fans expect.”
“These are difficult decisions, and John and I do not take them lightly,” said Tisch, “but we feel like this is the right thing to do at this time and will allow us to move forward.”
Giant’s fans have been clamoring for the firing of Daboll for quite some time and now they have gotten their wish. But since Schoen will lead the search for a new head coach will he choose the best person for the job? Only time will tell.
