Bo Nix Named The Starting Quarterback For Denver Broncos
He started his college career with the Auburn Tigers in 2019, then transferred to the Oregon Ducks in 2022. After his successful five-year collegiate career he was the 12th-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Now after drafting Bo Nix he has been named the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. He’ll become just the second Broncos rookie to start at quarterback in Week 1, joining John Elway in 1983. And Elway had nothing but praise for Nix being named the starter.
“Obviously Bo is tremendously talented,” Elway told KUSA and other reporters. “He’s played a lot of college football so he’s ahead of the curve when it comes to that. … He’s going to have his ups and downs as a young guy, which I had plenty of those, but he’s got all of the talent and the will and the mind strength to be able to do it. You just have to take it a play a time,” Elway said. “… He just [has to] remain patient. He’ll work his tail off, so we’re expecting good things. It’s an exciting time for the Broncos.”
Even five-time league MVP Peyton Manning was excited about Nix being named the starter. “I know what that’s like, starting as a rookie in your first NFL game,” Manning said. “But he’ll be ready and [I’m] pulling hard for him.”
Bo Nix Named The Starting Quarterback For Denver Broncos
Head Coach Sean Payton named Bo Nix as the Broncos’ starting quarterback yesterday after the practice. Below is what Payton had to say regarding the announcement:
“Bo Nix is going to be our starting quarterback,” Payton said. “I felt like — and I said this to [the media] two weeks ago — that room has been outstanding. [Jarrett] Stidham, certainly with his experience and then being able to work with Zach Wilson. All three of those guys. We’ve got some decisions as we get into the roster. I don’t want to get into all the other roster battles. That’s not for today. But Bo will start.
We’ve kind of gone through our process. In the very beginning of it all, just speaking with [General Manager] George [Paton] and [Owner & CEO] Greg [Penner] and understanding that oftentimes these things take care of themselves, but we’re not in a hurry to arrive at those type of decisions. We want to see it. I think it’s important relative to the team that we handle it that way. He’s been outstanding. Obviously there’s a ton of room for growth. There’s a lot of things that he needs to work on.”
I wonder if the New England Patriots will follow suit and name their Rookie Drake May the starter.
