Bills Got Bamboozled By the Broncos On Monday Night

As I have said before, the unexpected can happen in the NFL. And that’s what happened as the Bills got bamboozled by the Broncos on Monday Night Football. The Bills have been plagued by turnovers all season long. I just didn’t expect them to have four of them tonight. And on the opening possession no less! Josh Allen threw a short pass to James Cook. He caught the ball but had it ripped out of his hands by Ja’Quan McMillian. The Broncos scored a field goal from the turnover.

On the Bills next possession they got down the field easily. But Josh Allen was intercepted at Denver’s 12 yard line. The Broncos were not able to capitalize on the turnover and punted. It was an inauspicious start for the Bills. However, not everything was doom and gloom for the Bills. They were able to run the ball effectively against the Broncos. No sacks were allowed on Allen. And they had a higher average yards per play than the Broncos. Yet they couldn’t score or move the ball when they needed to do so. Too many punts and turnovers made it impossible to take control of the game.

The only thing that really kept the Bills in the game was the Broncos inability to score on all the turnovers. Too many times the Broncos had to punt. However, in spite of that Russell Wilson actually played pretty well. He looked like the old Russell from his days in Seattle. Scrambling around making plays, making defenders miss, checking down to the running back. And not getting a lot of help from the offensive line that gave up four sacks.

The final nail in the coffin came in the last four seconds. At first the Broncos kicked a 41 yard field goal that went wide right. But the Bills had 12 men on the field incurring a five yard penalty. That gave the Broncos a second chance to kick a 36 yard field goal which was good. So instead of 21-22 the final score was 24-22 Broncos.

All season long whenever the Bills won the toss they deferred. But last night they won the toss and elected to receive the ball. Perhaps the Bills thought getting the ball first might work out better. I’m not a superstitious person but maybe they should have stuck with deferring. Because nothing went right for the Bills last night. And so concludes a crazy, unexpected Week 10.
