He wasn’t successful in landing another coaching job so he pivoted in his career. The Manning brothers snatched him up for their Monday Night Football ManningCast. Now it’s being reported that Bill Belichick will be joining Inside the NFL on the CW. He will be a part of the cast that consists of Ryan Clark, Chris Long and Chad Johnson. Belichick has already gotten his feet wet in broadcasting as he appeared on Pat McAfee’s 2024 NFL Draft show. His appearance on the Tom Brady Netflix roast and the Patriots Hall of Fame induction were more television opportunities.

It may be surprising to some people that Belichick was not able to secure another head coaching job. After all he is an 8-time Super Bowl champion. In 24 seasons under Belichick, the Patriots won 17 AFC East division titles, made 13 appearances in the AFC Championship Game appeared in nine Super Bowls, with a record six wins. Overall, Belichick’s eight Super Bowl titles are the most of any individual in NFL history. So how could he not easily land another head coaching job?

Well part of the problem is his age, he is 72. Also, after the exit of Tom Brady from the Patriots, the team went into decline. In his last season with the Patriots they finished with a 4-13 record, good enough for last place in the AFC East. Naturally people began to assume Belichick could only win with Brady. However, Belichick has been referred to as a student of the game with a deep knowledge of the intricacies of each player position. So can he somehow get back in the head coaching game? Perhaps a broadcasting career could make him a sought after prospect in the future. It seemed to work for Jon Gruden and others.

But for now the CW is thrilled to have Belichick on the show. As reported on nfl.com, the following statement was issued:

“Bill Belichick joining Inside the NFL is a true game-changer for this storied franchise and The CW,” The CW Network president Dennis Miller said in a statement. “Not only is he one of the most accomplished coaches in NFL history, but his knowledge and passion for football is truly unmatched. Fans will now get the chance to hear his insights and better understand the nuances of the game from the master himself. We cannot wait for Bill, Ryan, Chad and Chris to deliver a championship-caliber show all season long.”

As for Belichick he is happy with the union as well:

“I’m thrilled to join my new team at NFL Films and to work on such a historic television franchise,” Belichick said in the same statement. “I’ve always appreciated Inside the NFL’s depth of analysis, and I hope to bring the same detailed insight to The CW by talking real football with real pros — Ryan, Chris and Chad — this coming season.”

Inside The NFL Gets An Upgrade

No doubt adding Belichick will be a fantastic boost to the show. His decades of football knowledge will definitely add more nuance to the game of football. I remember listening to John Madden analyzing Monday Night football games and learning all kinds of interesting tidbits.

I expect Bill Belichick to bring this same kind of education to Inside the NFL. Insights from both players’ and coaches’ perspectives should make for excellent entertainment. Particularly for a show that prides itself on combining studio analysis with NFL Films footage of the previous week’s games. I’m know looking forward to tuning in.
