For years we have watched football organizations prepare for upcoming seasons. Giving us a behind the scenes view and angle to how rosters are constructed, developed and motivated to win. However, over time it seems as though the well of support for the long-running sports show has run dry. As a result, HBO and the National Football League are switching gears. On Friday it was announced that Bill Belichick and UNC will be featured on Hard Knocks Offseason after NFL Films was unable to secure a NFL team.

Nonetheless, fans of Hard Knocks are still in for a treat. They will be able to get a front row seat as an eight-time Super Bowl champion—six as Patriots’ head coach, two as Giants’ defensive coordinator—lays the groundwork for establishing a program at the college level. Basically, full access to see an accomplished master at work.

However, this move uncovers there is still a problem. NFL teams have closed their doors. They are done with the wandering cameras.

The whole premise of Hard Knocks centers on following the journey of a football franchise. So then, not having a single team step forward and say, “I.” Posed a huge conundrum.

However, it looks as though a crisis has been averted. Instead of sticking to the NFL, the show is headed to college football. This decision could prove to open a whole new sector for the Hard Knocks docu-series; especially if this offseason edition performs well in terms of viewership, ratings and overall fan appreciation.

Nevertheless, FOS’ Ryan Glasspiegel broke the news regarding Belichick joining forces with Hard Knocks Offseason. He reveals,

“BREAKING: Bill Belichick and UNC will be featured on Offseason Hard Knocks after NFL Films could not find an NFL team to do it after the Joe Schoen debacle last year.

Bill Belichick was famously media reticent but in his 70s he’s added social media and is now poised to open up the UNC offseason program for NFL Films and Hard Knocks.”

The debacle mentioned above has to do with a failed negotiation that took place between the New York Giants and Saquon Barkley’s agent which was shown on the show. Barkley ended up going to the Philadelphia Eagles and having the best season of his career. And oh yeah, winning and becoming a Super Bowl champion. So then, now teams are not so keen to be transparent and showcase the moves they are making.

Therefore, now viewers will have to flow with the adjustment. From the NFL to College football. But it should still be a great watch.
