Between Doubleheader Blue Jays Traded For Seranthony Domínguez From Orioles
The trade period is always a rough time for MLB players. They know they can be snatched up by another team at any given moment. A snatching up of the wildest order happened yesterday to a couple of players in particular. Between the doubleheader the Toronto Blue Jays traded for Seranthony Domínguez from the Baltimore Orioles. The wild part is that Domínguez only needed to walk across the field to join his new team!
This deal to acquire the right-handed reliever was the first bullpen splash for the Blue Jays. The news broke between games of the Blue Jays and Orioles’ doubleheader Tuesday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. They announced the transaction on their social media account:
OFFICIAL: We’ve acquired RHP Seranthony Domínguez and cash considerations from the Orioles in exchange for RHP Juaron Watts-Brown. Welcome to the Blue Jays, Seranthony!
The deal, which also included cash heading to Toronto, sent Minor League right-hander Juaron Watts-Brown, Toronto’s No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline, to the Orioles. And according to mlb.com they’re not finished making moves yet. Toronto is still interested in acquiring Cardinals’ closer Ryan Helsley, a source told MLB.com, and have cast a wide net at multiple levels of the relief market.
Domínguez is in the final year of a three-year deal and making $8 million this season. He brings to the team a fastball that averages 97.8 mph and is on the cusp of triple digits. And he has posted a 3.24 ERA with the Orioles along with striking out 54 batters in 41 2/3 innings. Which means he is capable of dominating an inning, something the Blue Jays sorely needed.

As for Watts-Brown, he has been a pitching success story for the Blue Jays this season. He posted a 3.54 ERA with 115 strikeouts over 89 innings in High-A and Double-A thanks in large part to his excellent slider. Being involved in the trade, Watts-Brown also only had to make the trek across the diamond to his new club.
Domínguez has not pitched in the series but was active for Tuesday’s Game 1 for Baltimore and will be active in Game 2 for Toronto. The doubleheader will be completed later Tuesday ahead of Wednesday afternoon’s finale.
