Bengals Won the Cat Fight With the Jaguars
It was a real nail biter on Monday Night Football. But the Bengals won the cat fight with the Jaguars in Jacksonville. Most picked the Jaguars to win the game but the Bengals had other plans. Jake Browning in his second week as the starting quarterback acquitted himself nicely.
The Bengals run game had not been up to par in the prior weeks. But tonight the run game complemented the passing game very well. Joe Mixon had two touchdowns in the first half. It was clicking on all cylinders. And the Jaguars had trouble stopping it.
Yet the Jaguars also came to play. They were moving the ball just as effectively as the Bengals. Both teams were scoring at will. And the game was tight the whole way through. But disaster struck for the Jaguars late in the fourth quarter. A fellow Jaguar stepped on what looked like Trevor Lawrence’s ankle. He was helped off the field and cameras later showed him being helped down the player’s tunnel.
And to make matters worse, after the injury, the Jaguars 48 yard field goal attempt was missed. The Bengals scored a field goal on their next drive. Then C.J. Beatheard came in for Trevor Lawrence and made some nice throws. Two sacks taken by Beatheard killed the momentum and the Jaguars settled for a 40 yard field goal. That tied the game.
Cincinnati had the ball last before the fourth quarter ended. Their play calling with :26 seconds left on the clock was curious. They either ran or threw the ball in the middle of the field. No deep passes were attempted. So it didn’t seem like they were trying to get into field goal range, much less get a touchdown, to win it.

In overtime, the Jaguars ran 10 plays but only gained 26 yards taking almost five minutes off the clock. Needless to say they had to punt the ball. On the other hand the Bengals ran 12 plays, picked up 42 yards and kicked the game winning field goal in a little over three minutes.
Both teams played well but sometimes it’s the little things that kill you. The missed field goal would have made the difference for the Jags. But c’est la vie. In the meantime, we hope Trevor Lawrence’s injury is not serious.
