Bengals Made Roaring Comeback Against Vikings

The game got off to an exciting start with both teams scoring on their opening drives. But eventually the Bengals made a roaring comeback against the Vikings. But before we get to the ending lets go back to the beginning. After the hot start for both teams things quickly cooled.

The Vikings committed two turnovers in a row. Vikings QB Nick Mullens, was intercepted both times. On the first interception he was intercepted on the goal line. But the Bengals couldn’t turn it into points. On the second interception, it was preceded by a six yard sack.

Mullens was sacked again by B.J. Hill but tried to throw the ball away. It bounced off Hill’s face mask right into his hands. Less than 30 seconds were left in the half and the Bengals couldn’t take advantage of the turnover.

Although both teams were making mistakes the Vikings scored 10 points in the third quarter while the Bengals continued to play sluggishly. Unable to stop the Vikings passing or running game. Their defense continued to play zone coverage allowing the Vikings to pick up big gains. They also only had one possession in the whole quarter which ended in an interception.

However, the Bengals came alive in the fourth quarter. They scored two touchdowns and tied the game. The Vikings came back and scored another touchdown. But the Bengals were on fire and scored their third touchdown of the quarter.

The Vikings had one last possession but it began with a 7 yard sack. With less than a minute left they couldn’t make a first down. That forced the game into overtime.

The Bengals got the ball to start overtime but had to punt. When the Vikings got the ball they picked up a first down. Trying to get another first down proved to be elusive. On third and inches they couldn’t convert. They went for it on 4th down and lost a few inches.

The Bengals got the ball back on their 42 yard line. After an incomplete pass they picked up a 44 yard gain. They kicked a 29 yard field goal and won the game 24-27.

What I learned is that both quarterbacks are gunslingers. They don’t mind going for the big plays. But they also take big risks. Also, I learned Justin Jefferson is a darn good receiver. That guy was catching everything. It was a good kickoff to the Saturday slate of games. Now we’re on to Pittsburgh @ Indianapolis.
