Bengals Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins Agree to 4-Year Extensions Worth Over $100 Million

Cincinnati is SOLID on offense. Joe Burrow fought hard for his brothers and won. Now he gets to move forward knowing he got exactly what he wanted locked in for the next few years. On Sunday it was confirmed that the Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins agreed to 4-year extensions worth over $100 million each.

For the last couple of days news had been emerging from the Bengals’ camp that they were getting very close to some contracts for Tee and Ja’Marr. It seemed imminent. Especially, as numerous sources confirmed that both sides were close to finally being on the same page; especially, when it came down to numbers that were comfortable to all involved.

Nevertheless, NFL insider Jordan Schultz had plenty to say about these lucrative deals. And was the first on the story. There is also historic elements when it comes to Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase’s extensions. And Schultz does a great job explaining the contracts. He reveals,

“BREAKING: Bengals WRs Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins exclusively tell me they’ve agreed to contract extensions with the team. Ja’Marr gets: 4-years, $161M with $112M guaranteed — making him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. Tee gets: 4-years, $115M with the first two years guaranteed — making him the highest paid WR2 in NFL history.

The Bengals were informed tonight that Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins were accepting their offers. The parameters were ironed out on Saturday. The players notified the team on Sunday night. An official announcement will be made this week.”

However, there is more good news for Cincinnati fans. Yes, being stacked on offense is a good thing. But the Bengals could definitely use help on defense. Well, these Tee and Ja’Marr extensions will help give the organization to acquire more roster pieces. Schultz further explains,

“By extending Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bengals will actually lower both players’ cap hits for this season. Higgins’ cap number was over $26M, and Chase’s was over $21M – both will now decrease, giving Cincinnati more flexibility to continue building their roster.”

So a good win-win. Last year, Cincinnati narrowly missed the playoffs. But it looks like the franchise is going all in to build a strong, highly motivated team. It is going to be interesting to see what other moves the Bengals soon make.
