Bengals Edge Out The Cowboys On Monday Night Football
This was a special edition of Monday Night Football as the NFL teamed up with the legendary Simpsons cartoon. Although I wonder if kids today know who they are even though they have been on television for decades. Anyway in spite of the animation collaboration the Cincinnati Bengals were able to edge out the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Just last week the Cowboys ended their winless at home streak against the New York Giants. But thanks to the Bengals they are back to being winless at home.
They started off the game well with their defense forcing a Bengals three and out. Their offense then went on a 60 yard drive ending with Cooper Rush hitting CeeDee Lamb for a 12-yard touchdown. It was the Cowboys’ first opening drive touchdown of the season. But Joe Burrow and his offense responded with a 75-yard drive of their own. Burrow threw a quick 5-yard pass to Ja’Marr Chase to score the game-tying touchdown. On the Cowboys next possession they got down to 2nd & 10 at CIN 12 when Rush was intercepted. But the Bengals couldn’t take advantage of the turnover and turned the ball over on downs. That turnover led to a 35-yard field goal by the Cowboys.
For their remaining two possessions in the first half the Bengals scored a 19-yard touchdown and a 37-yard field goal. Whereas the Cowboys punted on their last two possessions of the first half. The Bengals sacked Rush for a loss of eight yards which led to one punt. On the other punt Rush had incomplete passes. It was hard to tell if the receivers didn’t run the right route or if Rush didn’t get the ball out quick enough. But they were only down by a score, 17-10 at halftime.

The Cowboys started the third quarter scoring a touchdown. Then their defense intercepted Joe Burrow when it was 2nd & 9 at DAL 38. But unlike in the first half when the Bengals had their interception, the Cowboys took advantage of the turnover. Eating up the clock in the third quarter, the Cowboys settled for a 47-yard field goal taking the lead. The Bengals marched down the field but stalled in the red zone again on 4th & 2 at DAL 10. They kicked a 29-yard field goal to tie the game. Afterwards the Cowboys punted twice as did the Bengals.
But the second Bengals’ punt was blocked. It was touched and fumbled by Dallas’ cornerback Amani Oruwariye and recovered by the Bengals. By rule, it remained the Bengals’ ball. In 52 seconds the Bengals scored the winning touchdown. Cincinnati finally won a close game.
