Bengals Defeated Broncos In Nail-Biting Overtime Game
Cincinnati needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive along with some help from other teams. However, Denver had no intention of helping them reach the playoffs. So it was an AFC battle between the Bengals and Broncos. Both teams gave it their best shot but in the end the Bengals defeated the Broncos in a nail-biting overtime game. There was never a time during the game when the lead by either team was greater than seven points.
Denver started the game and quickly moved down the field. But they stalled in the red zone and had to kick a 30-yard field goal. The Bengals also marched down the field and decided to go for it on 4th & 1 at DEN 22. They couldn’t convert and missed out on a field goal opportunity to tie the game. Denver had to punt and then the Bengals failed to convert on fourth down again. The Broncos went three and out and punted again. This time the Bengals’ offense got into a rhythm and moved the ball with a nice mix of the pass and run. Tee Higgins caught the two-yard touchdown pass. Then the Bengals defense sacked Bo Nix twice and the half ended with the Bengals up 3-7.
The Bengals opened the third quarter with Joe Burrow connecting on passes to multiple receivers. Denver committed back to back penalties, illegal contact and offside, putting the Bengals at DEN 3. But three consecutive pass incompletions made the Bengals settle for a 22-yard field goal. Denver was fired up and proceeded to go down the field with Jaleel McLaughlin doing a lot of tough running. However, it was Courtland Sutton who caught the six-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 10-10.

The fourth quarter was action-packed with both teams scoring touchdowns and then both making mistakes. First the Bengals fumbled the ball when it was knocked out of Tee Higgins’ hands. The Broncos recovered it only for Nix to be intercepted by Germaine Pratt. Burrow found Ja’Marr Chase for a 38 yard reception and a little later an 11-yard reception. Burrow eventually ran the ball in for the one-yard touchdown. But the Bengals left too much time on the clock. And with :08 left Nix hit Marvin Mims for 25 yards and the tying touchdown. Onto overtime.
The Bengals won the toss but couldn’t move the ball and punted. But their defense was on the case and made the Broncos go three and out. This time Cincinnati got to the DEN 15 but the 33-yard field goal attempt was no good. Again the Broncos went three and out. And this time the Bengals were able to move the ball with some nice pass plays. After a 31-yard reception, Tee Higgins then caught the three-yard pass in the end zone to win the game.
Bengals Get The Win In Overtime
Five-year veteran Joe Burrow outdueled the rookie Bo Nix today. But Nix has plenty of confidence and talent and will only get better in the future. As for Burrows, he was sacked seven times during the game but still threw for over 400 yards. When he is on, he is almost unstoppable. Games like this, that have you on the edge of your seat, is why the NFL is so popular.
The Broncos currently have the No. 7 spot in the playoffs if the season ended today. However, they’ll need to win against the Chiefs next week to keep it. The Bengals will need to win their game against the Steelers next week to stay in the hunt. And they’ll need both the Colts and Dolphins to each lose at least one game. So hold on tight because that playoff spot is still up for grabs.
